Indoor Cycling - Basic:

Designed specifically for the entry-level instructor, Norma Shechtman, 2003 ACE Fitness Instructor of the Year, shares with you the basic elements needed to instruct a comprehensive indoor cycling class. Teach others to safely use the bike and components, proper form and riding techniques and the benefits of cycling. Learn creative formats to make your class a fun-filled fitness experience.

 

Course Objective:

  •   Assist class participants to properly set up the bicycle, ride in proper body alignmnet and make equipment adjustments.

  •   Demonstrate and teach safety precautions on the bicycle.

  •   Design and write a class program including a warm-up, the ride and a cool down.

  •   Conduct a thirty-minute ride including all of the basic positions and riding techniques.

  •   Discuss physical, psychological and performance benefits of cycling.

  •   Discuss and incorporate cycling terminology.

  •   Discuss teaching techniques specific to indoor cycling programming

The popularity of equipment-based group-exercise cardio classes is on the rise. Customize your workouts to meet the needs of participants with different abilities and fitness levels. Learn how to cue correct technique for each piece of cardio equipment and to incorporate motivational coaching and strategies to improve each participant’s exercise performance and enhance class experience. Skillful coaching in a group-fitness setting is necessary to ensure safe activity and to create an environment that encourages success for all class members.

 

Course Objective:

  •   Define components of an equipment-based group-exercise workout for the treadmill, elliptical trainer and stair climber.

  •   Demonstrate and cue proper exercise techniques on the treadmill, elliptical trainer and stair climber.

  •   Assess exercise intensity using the perceived exertion scale, talk test and exercising heart rate.

  •   Calculate target heart rate zone using the Karvonen formula.

  •   Develop an equipment-based group-exercise class using a cardio coach workout template.

Learn when it is best to use seated or standing positions, efficient climbing techniques, the role of forward propulsion, gravity and wind when climbing and how to vary cadence and resistance for optimal training effort. Lenita teaches you how to coach the climb and avoid common errors in drill execution to provide your riders with challenging and effective workouts to improve power and climbing ability

 

Course Objective:

  •   Outline the techniques of seated and standing cycling positions for climbing and design a training environment for optimal muscular recruitment

  •   Identify the most effective climbing techniques

  •   Stimulate seated and standing hill climbs in a studio setting

  •   Explain the differences in the perception and experience of forward propulsion, gravity, and wind resistance between and indoor cycle and outdoor cycling

  •   Outline drills to develop endurance, power, speed, and strength
